WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AT DB FOODS?
Responsible for heading up food safety and quality, ensuring the foods is safe, legal and meets the customer specification and expectations. Supplier approvals, complaints and customer interactions.
WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE ROLE?
I started as a Saturday boy in the local butcher’s shop at the age of 14, left school at 16 and started as an apprentice butcher and attended Smithfield college.
Since then, I have worked in a variety of different roles within the food industry including NPD, planning, quality and technical. This has been across many different categories including raw and cooked meat, fruit, salad, wet salad, food-to-go and dairy. Supplying in to major retailers, food service and QSR.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO WORKING FOR DB FOODS?
The product category in the first instance. I have always wanted to get back in to the meat trade after working in fresh produce for around 10 years. After my interview with Gary and Steve I liked the vision of the company and where it was heading and wanted to be part of the journey as I have a lot of experience to offer.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
There are never two days the same in the food industry and, having come from fresh produce which changes like the weather, its nice to have a different challenge that meat presents.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY OUTSIDE WORK?
Family and meeting up with friends. Cooking, will have a go at most things trying Sous Vid cooking at the moment. Getting out with the dog.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL?
I like a good steak, but it has to be a good one. Ox check slow cooked in a rich gravy with mash.
